Copeland has quietly navigated the challenges of poverty, racism and body shaming to become the first African American Female Principal dancer in the American Ballet Theatre.
While her talent and endurance have taken her to the top of the famously competitive ballet world, it’s her commitment to mentoring young men and women of colour that has seen her receive her major and well deserved international plaudits.
Copeland’s passion for encouraging children to push their boundaries and follow their dreams has seen Copeland receive an ambassadorial role with global cosmetic juggernaut Estee Lauder, be publicly recognised as one of the world’s 100 most influential people by Time magazine and consult to Barak Obama during his time in the White House.
