Fit for royalty….

I must have been a princess in another life because I just LOVE luxury – accordingly, this glamorous bedroom doesn’t disappoint!
It’s so plush with it’s silk curtains, silk carpets and soft furnishings but it’s also a wonderful study of unexpected contrasts that work really well together.
My eye was drawn to a million places at once – first to the silver and pewter curtains which sit behind the bed and do a stunning job of softening the metallic frame and utilitarian bedside tables.
Then I went to the platinum velvet lounges and oh so expensive silver fur which frame the intricately detailed occasional table and bring it into focus.
The worked bronze of the table complements the chandelier and the louis chair – both of which are traditional in scale and form but sit well against the modern lines of the sculpture, the black lacquered smaller occasional table and the artwork.
This room got me thinking about what defines luxury and for me, it’s often in the more subtle details that we don’t immediately notice but their presence makes for a richer experience.
In this case, the walls, curtain pelmets and moldings are upholstered with fabric – a time consuming and costly process – that makes the room feel warm and welcoming even though the colour palette is very cool.
Needless to say, the three sets of French doors leading onto the balcony with views over NYC take this beautiful place to new heights!
